I have just the same problems.
It is not related to the age of the Hymer, though, but more to the age of the occupants attempting to get into the bed!!
If the Hymer is creaking and groaning, perhaps the occupants need to lose some weight!
But seriously, it sounds like it is due to movement in the mechanism, so perhaps some judicious lubrication of the joints is in order.
